PERKASA VS MCA

Perkasa complains that Soi Lek’s CEC speech ‘detrimental’ to country

August 18, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 – Malay rights group Perkasa today lodged a police report against MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek for questioning the 30 per cent Bumiputera equity target.

Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali who made the report at the Tun H.S. Lee Police Station clarified that the charge was not against the party, but specifically against Dr Chua for bringing the issue up at the Chinese Economic Congress on August 14.

“We are not allowed to question the sovereignty of the people. Bumiputera’s rights cannot be questioned by whomever... whoever who questions Malay’s rights will have actions taken against (that person),” he warned.

Dr Chua had proposed at the Chinese Economic Congress last weekend, a gradual reduction of the 30 per cent Bumiputera quota and the introduction of price preference to allow the community to compete on a equitable basis.

“We had lodged various reports in the past but when it comes to sensitive issues, there were no actions taken at all.

“Perkasa hope that something can be done by the authority,” Syed Hassan said, adding that the Malay community is getting restless.

Perlis Perkasa head and vice chair of Perkasa’s law bureau Haji Ameir Hassan said the issue should not be politicised.

“We are not politically-aligned. We just want to inform the appropriate parties that Chua Soi Lek's action was over the limit,” Haji Ameir said.

“What we’re doing today is not influenced by politics, please bear in mind and if so happen anybody not even the Chinese, even the Malay themselves did such a thing, we will object as well,” adding later that he “loves” the Chinese.

“Under the Section 3.1.e, whatever Chua Soi Lek said about to decrease of quota for Bumiputera is prejudicial and is a threat to the country because that’s our right, Bumiputera’s rights which cannot be questioned,” he said, echoing Syed Hassan’s sentiments.

He said Section 3.1.f clearly states that Bumiputera’s endowed rights are “untouchable” and there can be no exceptions.

“So why did Chua Soi Lek said such a thing and it’s not that he doesn’t know. So Perkasa had to take a firm action,” Haji Ameir said.

“Chua Soi Lek’s words are detrimental to the security of the country,” he said.

“Actions have to be taken as a deterrent to set an example so such a thing will not continue to happen again... it will spin out of the government’s control,” he warned.

“We urge the authorities to go into this complaint deeply, diligently and we know it can be proven,” he said confidently.

Perkasa youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah said this is a serious matter and demanded that the authorities take action against the MCA president.
