An apology to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman — The Malaysian Insider
AUG 18 — On August 16, The Malaysian Insider published an article headlined “Two charged over Pempena scandal for payment to Ummi Hafilda Ali.”
In the article, we had mistakenly pointed out that Pempena Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Tourism Ministry, was set up during Datuk Seri Azalina Othman’s tenure as Tourism Minister.
We had also mistakenly asserted that the prosecution of two former senior officials was the culmination of a scandal which broke while Azalina was still minister in 2007.
It has now been pointed out to us that Datuk Seri Azalina Othman was only appointed Tourism Minister in 2008 and was not involved in any role involving the alleged crimes committed by the two former Pempena officials.
We have since made corrections to the said article, removing all references to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.
We would also like to offer our unreserved apology to Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.
