Mahathir ready to testify in PKFZ trial
KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is willing to testify in court over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) fiasco, if summoned.
“If a person is required to testify in court, he must do it. He cannot say ‘I don’t want’,” he told reporters after launching Yayasan Universiti Teknologi Petronas (Yayasan UTP) at the Petronas office here yesterday.
The PKFZ case had generated huge public interest, especially with former transport minister Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik being charged last week for cheating the government.
However, Dr Mahathir stressed that “a prime minister could not be (held) responsible for the thing that he does not know”.
Dr Mahathir, who was prime minister for 22 years until 2003, said a lot of things happened without the knowledge of the prime minister and the Cabinet.
“Yes, the prime minister is always responsible. But there are limits to that responsibility. When he doesn’t know something, you cannot say he’s responsible,” he added. — Bernama
